Understanding today’s youth
We launched the survey to better understand what today’s students and graduates were motivated and inspired by so we could better help them start their careers and better help employers attract top talent.
What we learned extends to the entire hiring ecosystem in region. There are myths and biases officiating recruiting processes and talent development that need systematic changes.
What needs to change
Employers need to start paying more attention to how junior roles are structured. Offering an attractive salary from a recognisable brand is not necessarily enough to attract top talent without organisational structures in place that encourages upward mobility.
The youth in the region are looking for security and organisations they can grow and learn within. Employers that have relatively flat organisational structures need to focus on involving their junior employees in corporate goals and how their work impacts targets.
This is in line with recent surveys that have shown empowering the youth within organisations is not limited to just attracting top talent, but also improves crippling workforce issues across the organisation like employee turnover rates, talent deficiencies and leads to healthy talent pipelines when looking to fill mid-to-senior roles.
